Our Company, a manufacturer, employs salaried office staff who are classed as exempt and also hourly paid office staff. We are exploring the possibility of converting some of our long term hourly paid employees to salaried non exempt status. I would appreciate hearing from those of you who have done this exercise & who may have some advice as to the best way in which to accomplish the change with a minimum of problems.

I'd be interested to know what you mean by "salaried" non-exempt? Since "salaried" means a set amount of earnings over a fixed period of time, like a month, without regard to hours worked or production, is it your intent to not only pay for overtime but to deduct for partial days' absences? If it isn't, will you pay for hourly overtime even if the emploee in fact worked less than 40 hours during the week because of a partial days' absence?
