Effects of Relocation on Retention

The Transition Management Institute found that relocated employees leave the company that relocated them at a rate of almost 4 times that of non-relocated employees. Do any of you track this kind of information? If yes, are your findings similar? If no, would you pursue uncovering such data?

I would be interested in your responses. I am in the beginning stages of a research project in which our goal is to develop a formula for assessing the impact of relocation on the recruiting and retention bottom lines. It is our contention that one of the major reasons for the statistic that you mentioned is the failure of the family to adapt to the new area. This includes the possibility that there is a lack of community in the new area. When we refer to community we are discussing the lack of the ability to continue a certain way of doing things brought on by the change in the way the family unit operates.
