Hi.

I am researching innovative ideas that would change the way people function. My boss would like to undertake an initiative to adopt new ideas in our small group of 10 people. Those that have potential to go further could be presented to upper management for implementation to other groups.

What I need are success stories of what other firms have tried but these don't seem to be recorded anywhere. The work environment is a research division within the government.

Any sources that can be provided would be appreciated. thanks a bunch.

I should specify that everything is fair game. Methods to reduce (or eliminate?) use of paper internally, to improving social cohesion between groups.

thanks again

Please clarify some things: You work "within the government". Is this local or federal government? Doesn't this government already have "ideas" (i.e., procedures and directives) for motivating and evaluating employees? You seem to want a descriptive incentive plan and a method to evaluate education and skills (potential). By "presenting to upper management" do you mean promotion based on merit? Most organizations also have a promotion process in place. Yours is a group of only 10. Can you operate independent of the government entity in which you work?
"Success stories" do not exist as such probably because they differ among businesses and industries and are generally not pinpointed on an individual basis. I believe I may have a clue as to what you need, but....?

"Agraco",

I need some more info to be specific, what gov't, where is it located, Federal, State or provincial. I do have one suggestion for keeping things paperless. The company I work for use the internet greatly and it does seem to limit paper somewhat.

Anything else I would need some more info....

SOrry for the delay..I thought I had posted already.

OK, the 10 person group can work independently from the department for this initiative. We support senior exectutives directly and will be able to report to them on ideas that we think should be integrated across the department. Further, the programs that we have in place are "paper" program and are not resolving upcoming HR problems.

One of those problems incidently is that at least 60% of staff will be gone in the next 10-15 years due to retirement. The department has not done enough to retain young individuals.

Here is one idea that should be initiated shortly. We would like to encourage ambitious employees to spend 10-15% of their time with another team on a specific project. When the project ends, both teams can have a lunch-bag meeting to talk about the project, the implications for the policy direction of the department and so on.

This idea will help to diversify the training of younger staff and "hook" them to stay since they will be in a clear position for promotions.

The department is federal but I do not see how this contributes to the issue. We are searching for as many ideas as possible that we can implement in our group. These ideas can be in the field of different approaches to a creating mentors to cost cutting of office supplies to volunteer programs that help the homeless.

Each of these respond to different needs: retain youth, increase efficiency, create relationships between employess beyond the work environment.

I hope this clarifies things...for the sake of staying anon, feel free to use this email address: agraco@yahoo.com

cheers!!!
