I have a Dir. of Sales/Marketing that has a difficult time communicating his needs/wants to his staff members. I have tried to coach him on how to communicate and get his point across without alienating his team. All of his employees at one time or another have gone to him with questions and a need for direction and have come back to me frustrated and confused and asking for assistance. They feel like he laughs off their ideas and really doesn't know what he wants from them either. They feel like he is like a "deer in headlights" when it comes to answering questions about tasks he has directed them to complete. One or two people I questioned the complainers, but now it has ballooned into 7 employees.I have tried to help the Director, but it hasn't helped the situation. He discusses his feelings about other managers with other ee's, and i have counseled him on this issue, but it has continued. What else can I do to fix it?

This may sound unusual, but I have an attorney in this office that people view in the same light. My fix? I asked people to send him questions via e-mail. This way, he could take the time to read it thoroughly and type (and revise for more clarity) his response.

It's worked like a charm.
