An employee was given a leave of absence to enter an inpatient drug rehab center voluntarily, and the employee was told that once he successfully completed the program, discussions would occur about a return to work. The employee did not complete the program, leaving after 21 days because he needed to "take care of family issues." He is telling me that he can't get accepted into another inpatient program because he has not used drugs in over 30 days and his addiction is with cocaine, which does not require withdrawal. Any advice on how to handle? I'm about to pull my hair out with this situation!

He did not successfully complete the program that was offered as a condition of continued employment. I rather have my doubts about his story about not being able to get into another program. You should check with an employment attorney before doing so, but I think it would be reasonable to terminate him.
