one other option that we use are communication champs, elected from each area by staff and management. we use them to disseminate information as well, important that they are competent in delivering the message.

Employee-management communication & trust is always a challenge. There are lots of "things" organizations can do, but none will succeed unless top management totally embraces open, honest, frequent communication as a core VALUE.
Our CEO totally walks the talk on this issue. We have 250 staff. We have Employee Open Forums where the top 4 managers provide operational and strategic updates and take questions at least once a quarter. During times of rapid change, EOF's become monthly events instead of quarter to help keep everyone well-informed. We used to have bi-weekly hard copy newsletters. We now have a weekly e-newsletter - compiled by and sent directly from our CEO. There's no rumor mill, because the straight scoop is continuously shared. When you operate transparently, everyone always knows what's going on. We have very high staff satisfaction scores on our annual survey. I attribute much of the satisfaction to our CEO's "open book" style.
