Please any one let me know in brief about how many types employees have been classified into.... ?? (such as Permanent, Contract base, consultants etc..)

Here is what I would consider a very basic breakdown in the USA:
(1) Employee -- further broken down into exempt or nonexempt (from minimum wage/overtime calculations)
(2) Contractor -- very specific rules to fall in this group...many companies in the USA use these incorrectly. These generally work for themselves and not through #3 or #4 below
(3) Temporary/Placed employees -- workers from an outside agency who are employees of the outside agency
(4) Vendors - those who provide third party services (janitorial, insurance brokers, accountants, lawyers...just to name a few)
