One good factor might be to improve your language/writing skills.

For other skills improvement recommendations we would have to observe and know you personally in order to provide feedback. One solution does not fit all supervisors.

We have found many people such as yourself, so we developed a Leadership 360. It allows you to have peers, your supervisor, customers (internal or external), staff if you have them, and yourself to rate your capabilities in key areas of leadership. You can use the results to look for appropriate training/development opportunities or find resources that will address your needs, or use it in conjunction with a coach. If you would like to see a sample please let me know.

A good book to read is Primal Leadership by Daniel Goleman et. al.

Warren Bennis is the professor of leadership at University of Southern California. He's written a lot of books on the subject, but his On Leadership and "Learning to Read" are terrific introductions to the subject. I'd highly recommend his stuff.
