How much time do you spend re-contacting applicants for corrected/updated information for these former employers, references, schools, etc.?
Do you ever pass over an applicant because it is too much time/effort to get correct info from them?

I have usually tried once to get correct data from the prospective employee. If that still fails, then I drop it and move on to the next candidate.

Unless there appears to be a willful intent to deceive, I dont get bent out of shape about poor contact info. Theres probably some on my own resume since people move, companies go out of business or are bought out frequently. I usually just ask the applicant to see if they can track down current information for me. Same with dates, unless the candidate has stretched the term date from one employer and the hire date from the next one several months to cover an employer (s)he doesnt want to talk about.

To answer your questions in order:
* about 50% of the time
* I do the same as Nork3 - try once
* about 30% of my finalists get dropped because of their inability to provide clean, accurate and up-to-date reference information
