If you are layed off but, they tell you that you are available for rehire, is the company required to hire you back before hiring someone else?

If you are layed off but, they tell you that you are available for rehire, is the company required to hire you back before hiring someone else?

Unless you are covered by a bargaining agreement there is no obligation and it usually doesn't happen.
