Can anyone please direct me to some recent studies that provide insight into type of cost cutting strategies being implemented by organizations? The more recent the study, the more relevant for me. Th

Hello Dylan,

Below is the link to one on automating time and attendance- a practice that saves companies up to 5% on payroll costs and reduces payroll preparation time by over 80%.

Feel free to e-mail me at MNelson@datamaticsinc.com for more info!

I have read a lot but haven't saved direct references...Here is some of the points that I remember:
(1) shorter work weeks (four 10 hour days)
(2) furloughing/requiring employees to use vacation banks over a period of time (to decrease vacation liability -- more helpful for companies whose employees have built up large banks of PTO)
(3) lowering travel expense policies (no more business/first class flights, etc)
(4) requiring employee's to pay a portion of their cell phone if it is used for personal use too
(5) decrease the # of times certain tasks happen per week (instead of 5 daily trips to the bank reduce to 3 per week, etc)
(6) eliminating/lowering 401k company match
(7) increase the employee part of health/dental/other benefit premiums -- especially for dependent cost
(8) auditing dependents on benefit plans
(9) wellness programs to decrease health claims
(10) cutting bonuses, free lunches, other perqs
(11) cutting the receptionist position and sharing job answering duties with a voicemail system

If I think of more, I will post later

http://www.americaeconomia.com.br/Multimedios/Otros/5598.pdf from Mercer "Anticipating a tough 2009, companies remain selective about workforce, pay and benefit cuts". But this was written around November 3, 2008 and I think more companies have made more cuts than they anticipated in the last 3 months.
