Our company is preparing to perform layoffs for the first time. We have had fluctuations in workforce, but usually the employees just find new jobs and leave us due to lack of work.
When notifying employees in writing, any suggestions or templates that anyone would be willing to share?

Do you fall under the WARN Act? If so, there is some specific paperwork.
If you are offering severance and you want a release/waiver of claims, I would suggest getting that from an attorney.
We have also added a job reference letter stating the basics of when they worked for us, what they did and that this was a true layoff. This tended to get good feedback and I got fewer verifications.
I also tried to have any benefits paperwork ready to go (COBRA, 401k distribution forms, etc)
