Can anyone recommend a good metric for the number of accounting employees per total FTE count?
I would like to avoid the expense of buying a survey.
Thank you

I doubt there IS such a metric. More likely the number of accountants would be based on some financial measure, such as gross sales or revenues.

Yes. A ratio to revenues would make more sense.
thanks

Still too many variables to give you any realistic ratio. Some of the variables might be how automated your accounting processes are, number of invoices/receivables processed, number of payments, postings, etc. Is there cost accounting involved? What does your accounting clerical staff look like and what are their job responsibilities? Is the company private or public?
The real number is the number required to get the job done accurately and on time with no excessive overtime.
