I"m not saying tact/rapport precludes objective, etc. talk. I'm saying it's not a prerequisite. I'm also saying that when one focuses on tact/rapport re: delivering a message, it is often with the mistaken idea that it is possible to prevent the other party from getting defensive. And that can send us down a slippery slope of withholding important information from the very person who needs to hear it. It can also lead to manipulation.
