We have done just what Nork suggested. In our case, the local Sheriffs department sent a representative to one of our staff meetings.
His approach dealth with prevention first, then covered what to do in certain situations. This presentation was about an hour long including an extensive question and answer session. There is more to cover than a brief answer can adequately provide. Perhaps you can narrow your inquiry - you have asked a very broad question and want to apply it to a different audience than a workplace. Folks on this forum would like to help, but you need to give us more specificity. |

Your Workplace Violence title is more narrow than the examples you provided.
Some of your answers lie in a Safety Manual for things like fire drills, and other safety issues; Some of your answers have to do with Catastrophe planning, and the companies role therein. Is the disaster community wide, are you providing services and support for more than just your employees, etc. Actual violence in the workplace is a large topic all by itself and there are a number of issues to address, staff training and preparedness, and the like. |

...a key aspect of the policy should include efforts to avert such a situation (ie. create a positive, respectful culture). Reactive policy only seems to anticipate that violent behavior is an eventuality. |
