I've recently taken a HR/Payroll position with a company that runs a chain of 6 fast food restaurants. The owner would like to start having new hires pay for the cost of their first uniform (polo shirt and hat), but we would like to see what the common practice is in this industry, since it's a new one for both of us. |

I think that is a State Law issue. In Nevada, if the employer requires a uniform, the employer must pay.
I think other states have stricter or more flexible rules around this, so check with your state labor dept. Just a phone call should get your answers. |

Agree with Marc....totally dependent on state law.
What we do is that we give the first shirt free. If they want more, they get them at a discounted rate as compared to regular customers who also like to buy our shirts. |
