Has the "older employee" put on her big-girl panties and asked the chatterbox to keep it down?

I really appreciate all of your input. The older employee has been here 23 years and is a fountain of information. However, she also has a difficult time concentrating when there is a lot of noise and alot of interruptions, and unfortunately their supervisor has been no help. I will take this to the CFO and see what he thinks. I have suggested the idea of earplugs to her, but she has to answer the phone and is afraid she will not hear it.

"Can you relocate her to a quiter area?"
Did you mean "quieter"
Or maybe the intent was that we do want her to quit........

Actually that is one idea I'm going to suggest. We have a workstation that has cubicle walls on 2 sides and regular walls on 2 sides that borders our 2 areas and the walls might block out some of the noise and give her some relief. Right now that is unused because the HR Admin position was done away with. So I think I will suggest that as a compromise.

I go along with the Duct Tape idea, but I prefer the old "Cone of Silence."
The supervisor thinks all the work is being done, else he would be all over the worker who is having the problems.
She is meeting the standard that is set. It is probably just the frustration of working next to someone like that.
It reminds of a comedy sketch where the company found one guy so irritating that they stuck him in with the copier. He ended up having a somewhat one sided conversation with everyone making copies.
"Dave." "Daverino." "Making Copies." "Daverama, making copies." Daverinski, walking away with copies."
etc.

So does the supervisor not believe in working in a respectful workplace? How would he or she feel if another supervisor was acting this way? Performance involves the full spectrum - reporting to work on a regular and timely basis, performing the duties as outlined, and respecting others in the workplace! I can guarantee this lady would drive many of us crazy. Are you kidding me - singing cat songs? Either put her in a back room or you're at risk of everyone else leaving. This lady may be a good performer when it comes to numbers, but that's only one part of her job. Respect is another.
