We have a small company and it's very flexible. I feel that some people are taking advantage of it and when I brought it to the superiors' attention, they all felt like it was better to judge based on work output then number of days worked. Personally, I'm not in total agreement of this as I feel that in order to have fluid communication, people need face time in the office.
I'd love to hear people's thoughts.

Well, honestly there is your answer. Management seems to have no problem with the way the work is currently being staffed. I would have to wonder what your role in this situation is? What goals are not being met? What increased productivity can you predict due to more face time/time in the office?
You sound like you want to change the culture of the organization but management doesn't. I would either decide to do it their way or move on to another job that requires the standards that you think are best.

At bare minimum, since we work in a "team" environment, face time increases communication and nurtures collaboration. The folks who have been working remote or coming in whenever they feel like it have not been producing adequately. The bosses feel frustrated w/ lack of production, however, they'd rather do the work themselves vs. confront the employee. They feel that if we can look into ROWE, maybe the expectations will be more clearly defined for the employees.
My apologies if I interjected my personal opinion in my original post to lead you to think that I needed counsel on my attitude towards ROWE. Really, I'm looking for resources on the subject so that I can learn more about it, understand it, and attempt to put together a similar program to adapt to our particular work environment.
I have searched the web for detailed info on ROWE, but only come up with some articles on the basic premise and how well it's working for Best Buy. Does anyone know if there is a book or more resources out there on this subject? I'm looking for guidelines, tips on implementing, variations, etc.
Thank you,
CL
