Do employers have to legally provide employees with a break during the first 4 hours of work and during the last hours of the day? I'm an employer in Texas and I believe it depends on the organization

Do employers have to legally provide employees with a break during the first 4 hours of work and during the last hours of the day? I'm an employer in Texas and I believe it depends on the organization's policy. I can't locate anything that addresses this question. Please advise.

Go to www.ewin.com/articles/restper.htm, it will give a list of states & their required rest periods. I don't believe TX has one.

The fed has no mandate for rest or meal periods, except for transportation-related positions. It's governed by your state's Dept. of Labor. You can check with your local state Wage/Hour office.

Break times are governed by state labor or wage and hour laws. You can review most (admittedly not all, as not all states are internet friendly) by search on EB&G's virtual law office (found at www.ebglaw.com), go to the Legal Links Section, and state statutes are listed under "General."
