I need some help writing a policy to prohibit employees from lifting heavy objects and injuring themselves, while still allowing them to do their jobs. Right now we are not allowed to move any object

Wording for Weight Lifting Requirements

I need some help writing a policy to prohibit employees from lifting heavy objects and injuring themselves, while still allowing them to do their jobs. Right now we are not allowed to move any object over five (5) pounds without using a cart. I think we need something a little more reasonable - the average 6 month old baby weighs 20 lbs, right?

A baby might weight 20 lbs, but the car seat, the stroller, and a diaper bag weighs another 20 lbs. (that's why I used to hurt my back all the time!)

I think you should keep in mind, whenever you draft job descriptions, weight lifting requirements and/or prohibitions carry with them pretty significant implications under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act (gender discrimination), and workers compensation statutes. These types of policies should not be adopted willy-nilly (a legal term).
