ADA inquiry
Discuss employment-law issues such as family leave, overtime, disabilities law, harassment, immigration and termination.
Does the ADA cover the issue of height when it does require the modification of an individual's car and home? In other words, does that constitute a disability which would be covred by the ADA?

Height is not a disability per se, unless it results from some medical condition that meets the definition of "disability" under ADA -- such as "gigantism". ADA defines a disability as a medical impairment that significantly affects or limits a major life activity. A major life activity is something like walking, standing, eating, breathing, sleeping. You should go to EEOC's website at www.eeoc.gov for info on ADA and the regulations. That's for employment issues under Title I. Though similar in definition, Title III, public accommodations, and Title II, government services, have slightly different, subtle difference than the Title I mechanism for reasonable accommodation. Dept. of Justice is responsible for Title II and Title III implementation. You can get its legal info at www.usdoj.gov. Also try Cornell University website...it has some good stuff about ADA. |
