P3 Visas Status

We have a temporary worker who has applied for a permanent position with our manufacturing facility in Texas. He has a "P3" Visas, which allows athletes and performers to enter and work in the US. However, he has applied for an assembler position -- our company has no connection to the entertainment or sports industry. Can we legally hire him? During the interview process, he admitted that he is not currently pursuing an acting career, nor has any intention of returning to the entertainment field.
