Need help asap, PLEASE. We are considering hiring an employee that will work for us in Alberta, Canada and they will also live there. What calculation is used for withholding taxes and does Canada require any other deductions, i.e., unemployment, etc.? Please advise as soon as you can. Thank you.

Definitely a question you will need a tax expert to help you with. My tentative understanding is that there are other deductions applicable to employees being paid through a Canadian payroll system, such as health and pension plan deductions. Assuming you are an American company, ask your tax expert whether this employee must be paid through Canadian payroll.
