This is probably a stupid question, but what the heck.....do the w-4 and I-9 forms that the employee fills out upon hire need to be sent to the IRS? What other notifications does the IRS need? I just

This is probably a stupid question, but what the heck.....do the w-4 and I-9 forms that the employee fills out upon hire need to be sent to the IRS? What other notifications does the IRS need? I just started an HR department and kind of need to know. Thanks alot! |

The INS (Immigration) requires the I9 form to be filled out to verify that the employees you hire are legally permitted to work in the US. Make sure to have that form filled out correctly and have two forms of identification. The INS has been known to audit employers I9 forms. Also the I9 form must be kept separate from the normal personnel file. We use binders (one for active and the other for non-active).
When I worked in DE, we used to fax the W4 form to New Hire Reporting, so they could check on any child support, unemployment etc. In PA we just send a report not the W4, so we don't send the W4 to anyone. Check on what your state requires. |
