I just received a letter from the teamsters asking our permission to allow their ambulatory picketers onto our company property so they can "picket as close as reasonably possible to the Overnite trucks." There's no way we will give them permission to enter our property (do they think we're crazy?), but what can ambulatory picketers do?
Thanks in advance for any information.

If you have an adjoining entrance with the Overnight trucks, the picketers can block your entrance, however they are not supposed to stop any of your traffic from going through. I have been through a teamster's strike and they can be a rough crowd. You and the other business can file an injuction against the teamster to limit the number of picketers. You may also check out what type of security the other business will use and make sure they look after your business as well if it is an adjoining entrance.

Check also with your attorney for your local regs on trespassing. There may be an ordinance that would limit how far onto the property they may go. For example, 25 feet from the street..

Clarification of a couple of points would be helpful. First, do the Teamsters already represent employees at your company, or are they seeking to do so? If there is already a CBA in place to which the Teamsters are bound, the CBA may provide some of the answers you are looking for (e.g., a "no-strike" clause, etc.) Second, are there trucks on the premises owned by a different company?
Assuming that this is a "primary dispute" between your company and its employees, the workers generally do not have a right to be on your property (subject to certain narrow exceptions, such as where there is no other reasonable means of communication). They may, however, have the right (depending on your particular circumstances) to picket on the sidewalk or road in front of the company gate so long as they do not interrupt traffic, etc.
