When a visa holder quits

Help! This is new territory for me. I just had an employee, who is on an H1B visa, resign, effective immediately. I've only been with this company two weeks and I have no background in sponsorship visas. Do I need to notify Immigration that he has left our employ? Sorry if it's a dumb question.

As I understand it, your former employee's H1B visa expired upon his resignation. You could, as a courtesy, notify the INS, which would have the beneficial effect (at least in theory) of opening up another visa for somebody else, although the former employee is less likely to appreciate your thoughtfulness!

I could be wrong on this, but I understand that when an employer sponsors an employee on an H1B visa, and the employment terminates, the employer HAS to notify INS.

I would suggest that you check with the immigration attorney who handled the visa. (Hopefully you had one!).
