An audit of our file room found some employees don't have I9's on file. If we ask them to complete a new I9, are they required to put today's date? Or their hire date on the form?

I would have it signed as of today's date (especially since the forms seem to change pretty often) AND attach a note that during an internal audit, this form was missing and that it was corrected as soon as it was noticed.

But I would also want to reverify documents if I didn't have a copy of them.
