Looking how other companies handle the situation if an emp comes to work sick because he/she is out of PTO time. If the employer tells the emp to go home does the employer have to pay the emp for the rest of the day? Thank you. |

In my experience no. Sending a sick employee home was as much for the benefit of other employees as for the one sent home. The company has no legal obligation to pay wages for time not worked.

I agree with HRPro except in the fact that if this is an exempt employee and the employee worked at all prior to you telling him/her to go home. If he/she did work, you would owe them for the whole day. You stated "the rest of the day" making it seem like they worked a partial day. However if they had any PTO, you could deduct from that based on your company's policies.
But non-exempt employees would not need to be paid for any time they didn't work. |
