Happy Friday!
Ijust had an ex staff call me up to ask if she was rehirable. She was a staff who had given resignation notice within 2 weeks of being hired wihtout any notice period citing personal reasons. She had also received warnings related to her attendance during this two week period. Now she is statign that her relative had died in Samoa and she was depressed at that time. She hadnt wanted to discuss personal matter with her supervisor at that time. I did tell her that she was not rehirable. But my concern is since she cited depression, is this something i need to take into consideration? I am not sure if i believe her story though coz i could hear someone prompting her from behind wat to say...not too sure:(

Trust your instincts and your ears.
Having said that I tell candidates that they are rehireable but for some reason better candidates are always available. )

Yes, I tell people they are "eligible to apply for any position" - you can control who you hire, but they can have free reign on what they "apply" for

I reply that we do not classify former employees as rehireable of non-rehireable and then respond as above.

She said she had depression, she provided no medical documentation at the time of her issue. Consequently you are under no obligation to rehire her, reinstate her, consider her as a serious candidate or anything else.
Further, you have not offered her a new position and she has no grounds for requesting any type of accommodation; you have no obligation to her.
While I agree with others than anyone can apply I also agree that you don't need to hire anyone.
I'd just take a pass on this one and move on to other issues.
