I have an employee that wants intermittent FMLA to go with his wife for prenatal doctor visits. They both work for us so I know they will have to share the time. She is having a normal pregnancy and has been going to visits alone up to now. The baby is due in April and she now wants him to accompany her to the doctor. Have any of you given FMLA for this reason. I have given FMLA to husband if there is complications but this is a first for a normal pregnancy.

It is my understanding that this would be covered under a serious medical condition of a spouse and the father could use intermittent FMLA leave for it.

(If they weren't married, then the father would just be allowed baby bonding time after the baby was born.)

unless of course you are in a state that recognizes domestic partner relationships and has corresponding laws that offer this. CA is one.

Agreed but it would take a state level law that allowed for domestic partners to take leave.....Federal law FMLA can't allow it due to the DOMA (which doesn't allow for recognizing domestic partnerships).

Do you what states other than California have a more liberal leave policy for domestic partners? Or recognize same-sex unions that would then fall under state leave laws? Aren't you in Colorado? Do they? The only other one I can think of is possibly Massachusetts?
