Agree with the others, especially if later you want to use the criteria for review. You have more protection if it is something the employee has seen and signed.

Also can help in FMLA/ADA/Workers Compensation situations if you have the physical requirements of the job on the description that they have signed.

Personally I am all for job descriptions. Makes the standards quite clear for the employees and the managers. BTW, I always ask for ee and mgr input when origingally writing the job descriptions for a new position.
