An associate sends her manager and HR an email titled Resignation notice. It states that she is resigning. When asked in person, the associate says, "just wait for the email with the resignation details." At the end of the day, she replies by email stating April Fools...not today.

Can we explain that we are not allowing her to rescind her notice and go ahead and accept the resignation?

I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to accept the resignation. She offered to resign and appears to confirm that it's valid by stating that details will be forthcoming.

I agree with Nork. It could be a joke, it could be bad judgment (if they think its a joke it is bad judgment), or it could be cold feet. Regardless, if you want to accept it you may. You even have it in writing.
