We are a NJ employer looking to relocate an employee to China. Can anyone share tips/pitfalls? How is social security collected, taxes, what kind of visa is needed, can we relocate their vehicles as well or have to buy there, etc...?

I don't think this is a DIY project. I would try to find an international HR/tax/legal consulting firm. I know Mercer, Watson-Wyatt and Hewitt are just a few from the HR side.

There are a lot of pitfalls....such that many times companies find it isn't worthwhile to have just one expat....

Agree. The legal details in doing something like this number in the thousands - get the help of an expert.
