agreed...but the employer must still make sure that charging the deduction doesn't cause the employee's wages to fall under the minimum/OT standards

And usually the employer should have a deduction authorization form signed by the employee...either when the card was given out or when it was replaced.

It seems common practice to charge the employee for losing a mandatory uniform/access card.

I know my company charges for losing name badges and for uniform hats & shirts (though not if replacing due to normal wear & tear).

My husband's company charges a deduction for replacing a lost access card, though not for the use of a temporary access card.
