How do I get into the Human Resources field?

I'm interested in entering into the human resources field.(I'd like to get into the HR generalist role) I'd like to know what steps to take to enter into this field. I have two years of training experience and I currently work as a manager for the past five years. During my management career I have taken on projects such as staffing and recruiting to gain some experience in these HR fields. I have also had extensive experience in resolving complex employee relations problems throughout my years of management. I also recently obtain a Masters degree in Organizational Management which has extensive coursework in Human Resources management. I know that it will be a challenge for me to make the career switch. I just need a few tips on steps to take to successfully enter into the HR field. |

I work for a hr consulting agency and we have recruited at least two people for our company in the last year that have had no experience (at all) in the recruitment or HR. The best thing to do is start applying for jobs that interest you and see how you go. Always ask for feedback if you don't get the job - it will keep you aware of what employers are looking for in those positions - and don't NOT apply to a job you think you may not be qualified enough for but at the same time be aware of the diference between prerequisites and desirables listed in ads. Some helpful advice for someone who is also looking to get into HR. Does one wait until the degree is obtained which for me will be the end of next year, or start looking and see if something comes along. I am a supervisor currently and have had experience in interviewing, hiring, coaching, firing, FMLA, etc.
