I working on next year's holiday schedule and am curious to see what others offer on paid holidays (how many) and 'floating holidays'.
We are a brand-new start-up company and am working on setting policies. I could use some advice on a few items: Green Card sponsoring; can you put a contractual agreement? (We are an at-will employer)Vacation accrued; use them by anniversary date or lose them?
Any advice/comments are appreciated. I am new to this site and love it already!

Iam also very new to this site but i just loved it.
Iam also working upon formulating HR policies for the company.
I will appreciate efforts by those who have the idea about this.

Hi, Surabhi_1.

One thing you need to do to begin with is to identify and list of policies that you want to have. Too often, we constrict ourselves with "policies" for the sake of it, but don't really end up following it. Pertinent questions to ask yourself and your management will be, "Do we need a policy on this?" or "Are we going to stick to what we are documenting?"

Having enlisted and thought out policies you really need, allow a lot of flexibility in your policies. As is said, "in criminal cases, insanity is the ultimate plea, in companies, it's policy"!

Each policy document must have identical looks, preferably broken into (a) Objective (b) Scope and (c) Guidelines.

My suggestion would be to study sample policies of other companies before embarking on documenting them.

Good luck!

What state are you in? In some states, you cannot have a use-it-or-lose-it vacation policy.
