Employee Recognition Programs that work!

I am working on creating a employee recognition program, but I'm having a hard time finding any that are effective. I am the HR Manager in a manufacturing company with 100 employees. I would like something somewhat simple & not expensive. I would rather not have to go through a vendor, but rather administer it on my own (like I need something else to do, but hey, it's worth it!!)

I, too, am in the same environment with the same number of employees. Without knowing what your company culture is and what the past history has been for recognition, it's quite difficult to provide some options for you.

One also needs to look into "what is to be recognised?" some parameters have to be drawn, yardstick to be made. It would also help to know at what level of employees, this is being planned or is it for the whole organisation

Way back when, I served on a Quality Circle designated to put together a splendid recognition program. We ended up - 7 months later, I might add - giving 5 employees $1000 each but the thing that they loved the most was a designated covered parking space! So we had 5 covered parking spots with signs that said "Employee of the Year". In retrospect, the parking might have been enough!
