I once had an employee call in saying she would be late arriving at work. She said she had too many hickies on her neck and needed to wait until the stores opened to buy a turtleneck.

One of my employees called in to say they were lost and couldnt find their way to work. This person lives 5 miles from work, has worked in the same place for 2 years, and has lived in the same town for the last 20 years. Go figure.

One of our employees has called with several not-so-good excuses . . . most recently, the doorknob fell off her door and she couldn't get out of her apartment.

I had an employee just last week call in to say that she wasn't going to make it into work because couldn't find her clothes. Granted, she spent the day before moving, but it was still funny anyway.

We had an employee who called to say he couldn't come to work for two days because it was too hot outside, so he couldn't leave home. We're in Chicago.

That actually happened to me once, way back when. The doorknob fell off and I was stuck in a second story apartment. Finally, the manager got a ladder, climbed up to get through the window. and then forced open the front door for me.
