Telecommuting for HR Professionals

Have you had any experience with attempting the telecommuting method of work for professionals in the HR field? I am one such person who is extremely interested in "working from home" (at least part of the time). Although I understand that HR managers should be onsite to deal with employee concerns and issues, much of my time is spent on the computer and phone (corresponding via email and phone with corporate HR & management, web research, processing payroll, resolving benefits issues, phone interviews/screening, reference checking, running criminal background checks, etc.). What I am looking for is how to sell this to my manager. Any ideas would be appreciated. If not, can you tell me what career fields are most likely to adopt the telecommunuting idea.
