We're facing high turn-over in the San Francisco area recently and we think it may be due to the dot.coms competing for talent there.

Are there any strategies or changes you've made recently to your comp practices when faced with high turnover or difficulty attracting and retaining talent?

Compensation is a pretty good reason for turnover, but are you sure that it is indeed the reason? Doesn't take much for a computer whiz to put his/her resume on the 'net - and it could be poor management, a careless remark, working conditions, etc.

Do some exit interviews, or even call some of your departed employees for some insights on why they left.
