Funny you should ask... I was convinced that techies would be the best choice for an online recruiting site -- But after almost 9 months of using techies.com, I'm dissappointed with the results. My primary dissappointment centered around the heavy number of really mismatched resumes I received in response to job postings. I would send out very clear postings - stating minimum requirements, etc - and more often than not got complete mismatches. I felt other sites had a more diverse pool of candidate resumes. If you did sign up, I would suggest trying to add on the "resume search" component.

I seem to have the mismatching problem with other sites, too. For instance, with Monster.com. Are there any sites that you HAVE found useful?

I, too, found the respondents to be mismatched. We hire experienced system software engineers almost exclusively, our job posting was very clear and specific (I reviewed this repeatedly with our account representative when it was evident that candidates were mismatched), and most of the respondents were IS Administrators. From what I experienced, it seems to be a decent source for IS/Network administrators, but not software engineers. I think it also may depend on the market, my experience was in the Boston market. If you have not done so yet, I'd ask your salesperson to do a search for you and let you know how many matches you had with their current membership; also ask to see a sampling of the resumes to confirm that the matches made were viable. Finally, be aware that once the tech-alerts for a new job go out they are not re-distributed for another month. This was not expressly explained to me when we signed on. This means that if a qualified candidate joins Techies the day after your tech alert goes out, he/she will not be made aware of your job opening until the next tech alert is distributed one month later. I was originally impressed with the concept of Techies, but soured by the experience. No recruiting initiatives offer guarantees, but I felt there were numerous technology kinks to be worked out and when changes were made they were not effectively communicated to employers (e.g., the whole posting process changed and my account manager revised my job posting without speaking with me...as a result the requirements were misrepresented because she included qualifications that were of lesser importance - Java instead of C++).

above about having the account rep check for matches before signing up (although you're probably at the mercy of the rep's technical knowledge here).
And if he/she wants to make a sale, you can be that there'll be plenty of software engineers with C++++/Java----
with experience in Ooey Gooey design.

I get a lot of mismatches on my posts. Partly due, no doubt, to the broad dissemination of postings, and partly due to candidates sitting back and letting their job search agents identify matches and send resumes automatically.

If you want to make best use of your resume services on the internet, check the data bases yourself each and every day.
