The biggest advantage would be the time & cost saving reach into the global labor pool. The disadvantage would be managing the resulting tidal wave of applicants. The key is to use an online system that allows you to use sorting, screening and filtering technology to help you manage the volume.

Immediate access to a huge pool of candidates is the biggest benefit. The cost savings are also tremendous, as are the reductions in paperwork.
At the very upper end of the recruiting heirarchy, companies like Cisco and HP undoubtably have a problem screening all the resumes; most companies in this really tight labor market don't. I've found automated screening tools to be rather unreliable, as you only get those resumes that match your search criteria. Many good candidates resumes go unread. A primary disadvantage is that not everyone is online or knows how to put a resume in a database. This is particularly true at the non-exempt levels. |
