Last year we had 300+ new associates to hire (skilled trade, engineering, IS, project mgmt, etc.) between 2 generalists. I beefed up our ERP to include a $750 bonus & a chance at a round trip for 2 out west (to their choice of Phoenix, Denver, Albuquerque, Las Vegas or Reno). Our ad agency did some posters & table tents for lunchrooms. (In hindsight, we could have done them in house.) I did the rule sheets & referral cards with western themed clip art & stationary from Kinko's. Everything revolved around the Western theme. I sent out weekly teaser emails prior to rolling out the program. I had pens (with coyote, cactus, airplane and dollar sign shapes) imprinted with our hiring slogan--Hire Right. Hire the Best! On the kick-off day, we went to each location & handed out applications & referral cards, rule sheets & the pens.

At our annual holiday party we drew the winning name for the trip...so that added to the fanfare & continued the momentum of the program.

Other options include stickers or stuffers for paychecks.

I also measured the results so that we could easily justify the costs to management. The ROI is clear.

Good Luck! I'd be interested to hear how it goes. It's well worth the time spent as you compare costs to classified ads.
