Has anyone had any experience using a third party to conduct reference checks? I am particularly interested in how effective they were. We may be interested in them for verifying educational degrees,

BETTER TO FIND OUT PEOPLE/CLIENTS/CUSTOMERS WHO INTERACTED WITH HIM IN THE PAST DURING THE INTERVIEW AND CONTACT THEM DISCREETLY TO KNOW ABOUT THE CANDIDATE INFORMATION.

We have outsourced the reference checking for years. The agency we use is USAFACT (USAFACT.com). We have used ERS in the past too. They verify education, check criminal and credit, and will do employment references as well. We usually have them check one employment reference and we check two more ourselves. Good Luck

I've used Avert (Fort Collins, CO -area code 970 and website www.avert.com) for years to get the same info. They'll do reference checks based on questions that you provide, but oftentimes it's only date of employment and title that you can get. Reasonable rates, too.

IMHO, there's nothing like talking to the references directly. What they DON'T say is smoetimes more important than what they DO say. Those pregnant pauses can be a real heads up to a porblem.
