I agree with what has been posted so far. I am not interested in foreign-born nurses because at this time, we cannot sponsor. However, our (small) hospital has a newly revised plan of attack for nurse recruitment: a nurse who does a "drop in" to our small campus will not leave campus without personal attention. That personal attention includes me escorting them to the hospital and connecting them immediately with one of our Nurse Managers for a quick interview. If the N.M. likes this RN, she will walk her back to HR where she will receive a contingent job offer. We have a unique culture, we look for cultural fit which is for us about 50% of what will make it or break it for an RN working for us. We have a lot of challenges, we are not big and we don't want to be big. We serve the underserved and we are community-oriented to the nth degree. For the right candidates, we are a good fit. Even still, we have challenges not unlike the rest of you.

We also developed a unique plan to "buy" 4 slots for nurse students at our local community college where admission to the program is a lottery. We are paying the wages of one of the instuctors in order to get 4 slots. Our students graduate in a year, they then will work for us for 3 years. Creative, huh?
