We like to also say in the letter that we will keep their resume and application on file for one year and if any other opportunity opens up that this person's qualified for, we will contact them. This definitely keeps the relationship between the candidate and our company on good terms, especially if they were a good candidate. We have in fact gone back to prior applicants for future openings. |

We no longer send "regret" letters. Our advertisements clearly indicate only those who will be selected for an interview will be contacted. Of the individuals we interview (anywhere between 4-6), we personally call them to thank them for their interest and time. The response is there - no need to provide it in writing. |

We put a more personal approach to the process but giving EVERY candidate that comes in to interview with us a phone call notifying them that we are going forward with another candidate for the job. They took the time out to interview with your company (as well as hopefully research your firm). Why not pickup the phone and give a more personal approach to this piece of the recruitment process?
We do generate letters for candidates who send in their resumes but are not selected for an on-site interview. -Brian |

What, pray tell, is a "legally binding" regret letter?
If you're referring to a letter that won't get you into trouble, then I suggest something along the lines of: Thank you very much for taking the time to interview with us. Your background is impressive and we carefully considered your qualifications as well as those of several other candidates. Regrettably, we found a candidate whom we feel is a better match for our needs. Thank you again for taking the time to meet with us, and please accept our very best wishes for every future career success. |
