I agree, training in this area is lacking. Training I've seen is process oriented.
I heard Lou Adler speak at a conference and he was as close as I've seen - he's also down to earth and says it like he sees it - you can find his article various places, but I believe ERExchange If you find something else, please share. |

I'm just a layman inetrested in HR and recruitment from Hungary. Could you possibly send me Developing Critical Skills and Competencies for Strategic HR Recruiting Function and Recruiter.I'm eager to learn more about this field, since I'd like to take up a HR career after the maternity leave. I recommend that your recruiters and hiring mangaers be trained in Behavioral Interviewing. The research is clear that this type of interviewing is far superior to the old style methods used by the majority of organizations. You should easily see increased retention, decreased recruitment costs, and employees who are more satisfied. I will send you a flier with some more information. Thanks for the response; however behavioral based interviewing is only one small portion of a bona-fide Strategic HR Recruiter function. I appreciate your feedback but the job of a strategic recruiter is much broader then your recommendation within best practice precision HR strategic staffing organizations. If a recruiter only focused on interviewing, which is very important, I am confident that they will not help their company sustain a competitive advantage in the marketplace during this decade. Theres a new paradigm occurring within the HR Strategic Staffing function. 1) Linking recruiting to business strategy. 2) Adding value as a Strategic Partner/Consultant. 3) Streamlining Costs. 4) Improving productivity. 5) Improving Quality of Hire. 7). Customer Focused. 6) Do all of the above plus more without sacrificing quality of hire. Interviewing falls into one of these categories as well as reducing cost per hire and a few other metrics that you did not mention. But what about the other critical skills and core competencies that are required to plan, recruit, select and integrate quality diverse talent into the organization. I never met a person who was born to be a Strategic HR Recruiter! It is a learned function over a period of time, which has to be observed and measured along the way in order to optimize individual and team performance levels.
