How do i promote staff based on performance appraissal scores?

I have just concluded appraisal for my staff and i intend to use it for their promotion and salary increase. I already have salary scale (Job group 1-10 of 5 steps each). Will it be proper to use the

How do i promote staff based on performance appraissal scores?

I have just concluded appraisal for my staff and i intend to use it for their promotion and salary increase. I already have salary scale (Job group 1-10 of 5 steps each). Will it be proper to use the increase in steps to fix the new salary? take for instance, if a staff scores from 70-79%, i intend to add 5 steps, from 80-84%, 6 steps. Am i in order???
