Regarding a position that we are currently recruiter for, a recruiter wanted to know if my firm would consider a sign-on bonus when a perm offer is made.

What does a sign on bonus mean? If the position is offered to the candidate, the candidate receives a bonus? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks!

Yes -- that's it in a nutshell. They receive a bonus for coming on board with your company. These bonuses are typically used for hard to fill positions.

When we use a bonus, we generally make it payable after a certain amount of time. Usually, the larger the bonus, the longer the wait to get it.
This prevents the candidate from "taking the money and running."
