My company recruits top level sales professionals and it is getting tougher and tougher to locate these "superstars" who are willing to make a change. Does anyone have any statistics either proving or dissproving a labor shortage? It seems as if every candidate we talk to, whether they are strong or not, has 3 or 4 other things in the mix. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any time the unemployment rate goes below 5% there's a shortage of good people. At 4.5%, the current national rate, you find few professionals in the mix who have high demand skills.

I'd be a little skeptical of any sales rep who says he or she has 3 other things going. It's possible, but if I were a sales rep looking for a better deal (and what good sales rep isn't?), I'd certainly mention that I had other things going just to get some additional leverage.
